In order to achieve self-sufficiency, families need a firm foundation - a nurturing, safe and supportive environment. Sabathani Community Center is an engaged and empowered institution committed to assisting families in reclaiming a sense of self-determination (I can) rather than a prevailing sense of defeat (I can't). Sabathani helps community members reach their fullest potential by focusing on life skills, self reliance, job readiness, basic needs, education and school success. Sabathani Community Center offers a wide range of programs and services to the South Minneapolis area.
Family Resource Services,
Provides resources to families in need, such as food, clothing, furniture, and transitional housing. Families are also able to obtain income tax assistance, holiday food baskets, and back-to-school supplies
.
Horizons Youth Program,
An academic enrichment program for youth 5-13 years old that provides a continuum of services in a safe neighborhood environment after school and during summer vacation.
Life Skills Center,
Prepares adults 16 and older for the work force through GED and college/trade exam preparation, tutoring in math and reading, computer skills, English as a Second Language and citizenship classes.
Sabathani Senior Center,
Assist seniors with maintaining an independent life style by providing services and actives such as: Congregate Dining, transportation, legal referrals, health information, field trips and volunteer opportunities.
James G. Cook, Health First Access Center,
To increase health care and healthy behaviors for disparate communities in South Central Minneapolis , focusing on the Central and Bryant neighborhoods.
Building Operations,
Building Operations provides office and program space to nonprofit organizations to enhance services provided to the community. The land and building formerly known as Bryant Junior High School were renovated for this purpose. The Building Operation is operated as an independent component of the Community Center.
