Sabathani Community Center Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer Description

Life Skills
ESL Tutor: Help adult learners with English skills, such as speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Should be dependable, patient, and relate well to diverse groups of people. Day or evening for about two hours. If interested, please contact Cheryle Valiquette at 612-821-2301.
Basic Reading Tutor: Assist individual adult learners with development of basic reading and writing skills. Should be dependable, patient, and relate well to diverse groups of people. Daytime hours. If interested, please contact Joan Gordon at 612-821-2344.
Math Tutor: Assist adult learners in an open study hall with math skills. Strong knowledge of fractions, decimals, basic algebra, and geometry helpful. Should relate well with diverse groups of people. Day or evening hours. If interested, contact Rosalind Artison-Koenning at 612-821-2301.
Clerical Assistant: Help classroom teachers in ESL and Basic Reading programs with record keeping of student files. Should be well organized and detail oriented. Daytime hours. Please contact Cheryle Valiquette at 612- 821-2301
Youth Tutor: Assist school-age children with homework, basic skills, games, and activities. Should be patient, dependable, and caring. Very good reading and math skills are desirable. Evening hours. Please contact Veronica Chatterton at 612-821-2301.


Senior Center
Volunteers needed to grocery shop with seniors on Monday and Wednesday. Please contact 612-821-2306 for more information


Family Resource Program
Data Entry Support to Clothing Shelf:
Assist Family Resource staff with entering and retrieving client data. Maintaining client utilization records and assists all family resource programs
Available hours: M-F 8am-4pm.

Garden Assistant: Providing assistance to new gardeners, assist in the physical garden lay out, maintain garden paths. Spreading applications of compose, wood chips and manure. Assist in gardening information and techniques providing a friendly farmer presence to fellow gardeners. Assisting in the maintenance of garden gate security.
Available hours: M-F 8am-4pm
Truck Caddy
: Travel with driver for scheduled pick-up's, assist in the loading and unloading of donations. Should show customers courtesy at all times
Available hours: M-F 10am-4pm
Traffic Monitor: Monitor incoming traffic and donation to the resource program; assist in the loading and unloading of incoming resources
Available hours: M-F 12pm-5pm
Food Shelf Server: Orientation and training to the food shelf service component. Assist in the distribution of food to clients. Maintaining adequate food shelf stock. Moving items from warehouse to food shelf for distribution sorting and weighing incoming and outgoing supplies.
Available hours: M-F 8:30am-4pm/Every 3 rd Saturday of the month
Clothing Room Sorter: Sort and display items for redistribution to customers, sort, hang and display items for customers. Bag and remove any soiled or damaged donated clothing or housewares.
Available hours: M-F 7:30am-4pm
Clothing Boutique Assistant: Assist customers in identifying clothing for success for job interviews. Select clothing from donation specific for customers seeking employment. Help customer with sizing, color and design coordination of work apparel. Maintaining seasonal wear and accessories for customer
Available hours: Schedule appointments with customers
